A practical, source-linked overview of Canadian drone rules for property media, and why Snap Spaces does not currently offer aerial photography.
Drone photography is not just another listing add-on. In Canada, drones are aircraft, and operators need to understand Transport Canada rules before flying for property media.
Snap Spaces does not currently offer drone or aerial photography. Future availability depends on Transport Canada certification, insurance, and a confirmed workflow.
Transport Canada explains that drone rules depend on what you fly, how you fly, where you fly, when you fly, and who is flying. Category depends on operating weight, distance from people, line-of-sight, and airspace.
The official overview is here: Drone operation categories and pilot certificates.
Microdrones are under 250 g. Transport Canada says microdrone pilots do not need to register the drone or hold a pilot certificate, but they still need to avoid reckless or negligent operation and follow microdrone rules and best practices.
For drones at least 250 g and up to 25 kg, operators generally move into Basic or Advanced operations depending on location, distance from people, and airspace. Basic operations have stricter limits around people and controlled airspace. Advanced operations can allow more complex conditions, but require the right certificate, drone requirements, and permissions.
Transport Canada’s safety page is here: Flying your drone safely and legally.
Before hiring aerial media for a property, ask for the operator’s certificate category, drone registration where required, airspace plan, privacy plan, trespass/access plan, insurance position, and weather contingency.
Also confirm whether the property is near airports, heliports, emergency sites, advertised events, critical infrastructure, or controlled airspace. These conditions can change what is allowed.
If a listing needs aerials today, hire a qualified provider and confirm compliance directly. Snap Spaces can still handle HDR photos, 3D tours, floor plans, Airbnb media, and commercial property media without implying that drone is available.
Send the address, property type, square footage, media needs, deadline, and access notes. Snap Spaces will confirm the package, travel, and timing before the shoot.
